Game night and Wednesday at school!

Tuesday night we went to the Cumbernald Youth Club and had a somewhat VBS type event. We got there and I went with the P1-3 group and got to read the Bible story, where I was reminded again that I talk funny. There was one little boy there and the first thing he said was "I'm bored, I don't want to be here." So I said, "Well, yo;ve missed the Bible story, but if you are quick I'll show you the pictures." He slowly became interested as I flashed the picture quickley and said,"Did you get it?" He laughed and from then on the rest of the night he was sort of my buddy. If you remember the girl I met named Megan that drew me picture, she was there and we hung out all night. We talked about polly pocket and black beauty and things like that. It was so much fun we played games like Captain my captain and dodgeball and steal the baby. I might say we all got competitive, but we all had sooooo much fun and it was so cool to see young children come together and have a time where they can play and be off the streets. It was also really neat because there was a mother who brought her two children, we later found out the she came to the Youth Club when she was about 8 and now she brings her kids. It just shows you the impact that a program or a person can have on somebody.

On to today at school. It went by really fast but I felt like I am really getting to know these children. I worked with a group of three after tea time (yes, the teachers have a tea time in the morning) and we worked on picking different numbers and shapes out of a mumble jumble of shapes and numbers. It helps them decifer numbers and shapes. I also worked on my lesson that I have to teach in two weeks. I am going to be teaching problem solving...which they have never done before with math. By the way they call math...maths here! Tonight, a bunch of took the bus to Falkirk, not far from here, to go to ASDA(wal-mart) and while we were there I saw one of the little boys from my class and he shouts out "Ms. Venable, Ms. Venable, hello Ms. Venable." It was cute...the funny thing is, the little boy happens to be the biggest trouble maker for Mrs. Mardon, but he tends to be good with me. I think it is because I am American. Other than that I had a really good day and can't believe my first week in the school is almost over! Here are a few pictures of my classroom, I'm not sure yet if I'm aloud to take pictures of the children yet...but here you go:
